After Backlash, Including From Trump, House GOP Drops Weakening Of Ethics Office

http://www.npr.org/2017/01/03/508043376/after-trump-tweets-criticism-house-gop-drops-weakening-of-house-ethics-office

So we can take this two ways.. this was all a ruse to make someone look good… or pressured by the backlash that was not expected by common people who awoke to the news thus a the tweet was made to look good…. either way it was people who rose their voices
For the next four years we need the voices to remain to stop alt-right from taking complete power.. keep the pressure on to rid our nation of white supremacy …. shame the alt-right back into the dirty void they belong in

The War on Christmas Fallacy

The Steel Soapbox … The War on Christmas Fallacy

You hear this phrase a lot lately, that there is a deliberate attempt by the “liberals” etc to take away your right to say Merry Christmas and deny Christianity in America. Really!!!! And just how many swallowed that line… LOTS… ever since around 2005 you have heard this screaming out in the news-feed, people in videos, really to the point of violent… all during a time for peace on earth.. very sad

But hurrah now those proponents of this intangible war are claiming the “War on Christmas” has ended, once again you can say Merry Christmas.

Wait a minute…hmmmm… since when could you not? In imagination and fear mongering land apparently because I hear it all the time and have no worry about people not saying it.

I see nothing wrong with the term Happy Holidays since that has been used for years and years. For me the word holiday just stands all those holidays from Thanksgiving through New Year. With Merry Christmas being reserved more for the day itself.

Does anyone remember the song “Happy Holidays”? I doubt the likes of Andy Williams or Bing Crosby was censoring Christmas when they sang. It is just an inclusive term that is all. So what is the the reasoning why for the intense dislike by those forging this invisible non-existent fantasy war.

Face it and this is the truly hard part to admit, the word holiday it is not “white” enough because the term holidays could include those other holidays, instilling a fear that acknowledging other holidays would make the USA a non-Christian nation and therefore non-white. That is where this idea of a war on Christmas goes to the roots of this whole idea.

soooooo……how many out there in internet land has thought to check where this silliness all started and why it is going on. Well I did because I like to know what those pesky facts are and where they come from. So let us get the facts and know why we should not be passing along this load of bull.

The Ford Connection in 1921

In 1921 Henry Ford, yes the automaker and anti-Semite, wrote and distributed a pamphlet “The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem” in which he states:

“Last Christmas most people had a hard time finding Christmas cards that indicated in any way that Christmas commemorated Someone’s Birth,”

“People sometimes ask why 3,000,000 Jews can control the affairs of 100,000,000 Americans. In the same way that ten Jewish students can abolish the mention of Christmas and Easter out of schools containing 3,000 Christian pupils.”

“It is not religious tolerance in the midst of religious difference, but religious attack that they preach and practice.”

“The whole record of the Jewish opposition to Christmas, Easter and certain patriotic songs shows that.”

He was referring to what he saw as a unified effort to silence Christmas carolers among taking religion out of school by denying Christmas and Easter. So who was to blame, of course those of the Jewish faith.

1950 and the John Birch Society

Coming up on this a few years later in 1959 a publication of a pamphlet called “There Goes Christmas”. This was a creation of groups affiliated with the John Birch Society (JBS). Have no idea who they are? Maybe you need to read up on them as well. In a short the John Birch Society is basically a conservative organization supporting anti-communism and limited government. They decided in the late 50’s there was a new communist plot to overthrown Christianity by taking the Christ out of Christmas. So that was their aim.

Both had one thing in common, no proof. One blamed those of the Jewish faith and the other blamed communism. The difference one blamed a specific religion and people, one a political concept.

Simply put this idea was a conspiracy theory back then with no facts other than paranoid delusions. In recent times we have seen this whole idea reborn, however not improved but still as a valueless conspiracy theory.

1990’s reintroduction

So where did the modern “War on Christmas” come from. It was started with a meme in the 90’s by Peter Brimelow. Who is he you wonder? Well he is a known white-supremacist, anti-Semitic, and owner of site called VDARE…

Just a quick side note because I always find quirky in odd ways: VDARE stands for Virginia Dare the first white child born in America and VDARE is an anti-immigration group. Think about that for a second, they are named after a child of …???what???… oh yes: immigrants… and yet the organization is against immigrants coming to a “white” country. Refresh me I could have sworn the Native Americans were here before and they were not Christians… soooooo is this group against itself or just what they consider “non-white” immigrants. That says to me a lot about their ideology.

Back to serious here… in 1995 Brimelow wrote a book called “Alien Nation”. In that book he blamed the lack of everyone saying Merry Christmas in favor of Happy Holidays was the result of “weird” aliens from those 3rd world countries who were eroding America’s white Christian core and the cause of the sudden Happy Holidays sayings. Really… that was his argument. There was no proof given, no studies, no statistics. Just what he thinks and his opinion.

Also note the use of the word alien is used to make something so foreign to us it is not human… we need to rethink words and how people use those words. Once we start to see other humans as inferior to you, yourself, and you, it becomes dangerous and that is the whole idea behind supremacy. To make something so un-human you can with ease of conscious deny them basic human rights, call for ethnic cleanings, and openly degrade them… is that not what we are seeing? Think about it for a while.

Again back on track, who else was sharing these views for we cannot limit this phenomena to just Brimelow, others helped in the hate creation, that helped to birth the conspiracy theory taking root in white-supremacy.

Let us see, in 2001 a writer called Tom Piatak targeted those behind the “War on Christmas” as none other than those who preferred Hanukkah of which he titled Jewish Kwanzaa” (faux-Christmas). Now who is this person you are wondering, lots of names you may not recognize if you are not part of that loop. Mr. Piatak is what is known as a “paleoconservative” writing for a magazine called “Chronicles: A Magazine of American Culture” which is known for pseudohistory and who counts among the contributors a fair share of out and out racists. Paleoconservative is another word I am sure many will look up. It basically means: an extremely right-wing conservative.

Now we can step a few years ahead to 2005 a very big year indeed. Here we have Steve Sailer, author of “America’s Half-Blood Prince” and rather known to have influence over the right wing in that time period, took a step farther in this conspiracy evolution in strengthening the source being Jewish. He is a proponent of eugenics, which is “the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics” which is ominous considering he leans to the belief that minorities need to be controlled because they lack IQ points. Okayyyyy onwards …..

On Dec. 7th, 2004, The O’Reilly Factor aired a small segment called “Christmas Under Siege”. Hmmm did anyone think this supposed war, a white supremacist ideology, is openly given media acknowledgment … and no one thought this should be a worry … hmm but-t-t-t…..

The whole white supremacy idea was covered up, a twist appears on the horizon to make it palatable. A slight change in the program that made the whole white supremacist background easy for a majority of America to swallow: blame it on the liberals and ignore the root, after all who will look. Polarization is a great way to keep expel locked into what you want them to hear, and those echo chambers were loud with this foolish War on Christmas idea.

In 2005 O’Reilly launched in full force the annual War on Christmas program:

“I think it’s all part of the secular progressive agenda to get Christianity and spirituality out of the public square.” “Because if you look at what happened in Western Europe and Canada, if you can get religion out, then you can pass secular progressive programs like legalization of narcotics, euthanasia, abortion at will, gay marriage.” (Bill O’Reilly Nov. 18, 2005)

Weird how in one part he of his program he condemns and shames those stores for not saying Merry Christmas in favor of Happy Holidays, but then tributes the whole commercialism aspect credit for praising Christmas:

“Every company in America should be on its knees thanking Jesus for being born. Without Christmas, most American businesses would be far less profitable.” (Bill O’Reilly Nov. 29, 2005.

That comment above was in response to a discussion with John Gibson, referring to winter break rather than Christmas break. Guess they never heard of the notorious “spring break” rather than Easter break. Times change, as we all know. Words are becoming more defined of the actual event. So to compare apples to steak in order to make a nonsensical point and infame anger, what is the real reasoning, for what purpose? That is what we need to look at and why the term holidays is so offensive to the conservative right.

Back to John Gibson I mentioned above, this gentleman also hit the bandwagon publishing a book in 2005 that conspiracy theory “The War on Christmas: How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday Is Worse than You Thought.” In the many reviews available, the book is describe basically as a long rant on why he thinks there is a war:

“The Christians are coming to retake their place in the public square, and the most natural battleground in this war is Christmas”

Since 2005 the “War on Christians” full program was debuted, the same idea and format is rolled each year with the targets varying but still directed at anyone not conservative right or following their mandate for what is allowed to be said. Many have jumped on the bandwagon with books, interviews, articles,: if someone would listen or pay money to keep the term Merry Christmas these guys were there to partake of those greenbacks.

After President Obama was elected, the new target was the White House and his questionable birth. Many posted that the President refused to say Merry Christmas, in an attempt to tie him to Islam and thus not American. This is of course silly nonsense as shown in a video that shows a series of spliced together of Christmas wishes from the White House where the President says over and over Merry Christmas.

But why hear the real facts when the lies are along what you want to hear, America is at war with the “white” Christians and we must protect our European values. European, another code word now used for white America. Oh and that term European is limited by the alt-right in who is classed and what parts of Europe are considered…. senseless I know

Before I go further down the time line, let us stop and look at three important items that still need to be covered:

First: Commercialism… this whole idea of controlling what stores will say. The best example of this control can be shown with a list distributed by The American Family Association (AFA). This organization separates companies into three categories based on the following as noted on their website:

Nice: “Company uses the term “Christmas” on a regular basis, we consider that company Christmas-friendly.”

Marginal: “Company refers to Christmas infrequently, or in a single advertising medium, but not in others.”

Naughty: “Company may use “Christmas” sparingly in a single or unique product description, but as a company, does not recognize it”

“Criteria – AFA reviewed up to four areas to determine if a company was “Christmas-friendly” in their advertising: print media (newspaper inserts), broadcast media (radio/television), website and/or personal visits to the store. If a company’s ad has references to items associated with Christmas (trees, wreaths, lights, etc.), it was considered as an attempt to reach “Christmas” shoppers.

If a company has items associated with Christmas, but did not use the word “Christmas,” then the company is considered as censoring “Christmas.”” (AFA 2016 webpage)

Now we are not talking about anything tangible, like how they treat their employees, customer service, value, or the quality of merchandise. This list does not account for charity donations the companies may do around the holiday times or year long. It only concerned if the company advertises Christmas in their sales in the media or in the store…. Is that Christmas value, how one constructs an ad? We have gone way down the rabbit hole if so.

Second: Xmas versus Christmas

Oh one also has to note apparently using the abbreviation Xmas will get you a strike and lecture by those that fear you dared to take Christ out of Christmas as I saw a bumper sticker say just today. “Not Xmas, keep Christ in Christmas”. Okayyyyy.

That is actually kind of funny since if one bothers to look into the use of the Greek letter chi-the X-for it is the first letter of Christ in Greek language. Oh and Greek by the way was the language of the New Testament. The use is known as a Christogram.

Those posting that the use of Xmas is taking Christ out of Christmas are again not checking facts and posting or sharing fake news.

Third: Starbucks

Starbucks for years had holiday/winter theme cups, but snowmen, snowflakes, reindeer, and so forth. But nowhere ever was there the phrase “Merry Christmas”. So in November 2015 when a simple plain red cup was introduced, why the sudden Starbucks is anti-Christmas.

One source is plain, a video by Joshua Feuerstein who calls labels himself via his Facebook an evangelist and self-proclaimed “social media personality”. His rant, and that is all it can be called, was baseless.

“Do you realize that Starbucks wanted to take Christ, and Christmas, off of their brand-new cups? That’s why they’re just plain red.” “Do you realize that Starbucks isn’t allowed to say ‘Merry Christmas’ to customers?”

There was no proof to his claim that Starbucks removed Christmas nor did the company ever forbid the words Merry Christmas”. He then brags he tricked Starbucks by saying his name was Merry Christmas and tricking the company ingot repealing some nonexistent rule. Oh and he also revealed he took his gun in since Starbucks hated the second amendment. What??????

This is how fake news starts with a false accusation going viral among those who are looped in this polarized echo chamber. The numerous shares and quoting resulted in people believing it was true. Even president-elect Donald Trump got into the fray believing this fake news theory:

“Did you read about Starbucks? No more Merry Christmas on Starbucks. Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don’t know. Seriously, I don’t care. ” (Springfield, Illinois Nov 9, 2015)

To be honest, I find this video rant disturbing that a man claiming to be God-fearing spreading the word of God would act like this in a video? This is how one supports the Christmas spirit of love and peace? So what was the reasoning behind this false story and the anger, to get clicks to his Facebook page, YouTube, to make money via clickbait to website and sadly for that 15 minutes of fame with a reported over 1.8 million likes and 12 million views… that brings in fans and bucks. Is that the moral thing to do? You have to decide that on your own… personally I had a nice time at Starbucks just today, and no there were no one saying their name was Merry Christmas to trick the cashiers, just busy working people begin polite to each other and customers responding with like manners…

Finally back to the time-line

All this history brings us to today 2016… and now we are told proudly by Corey Lewandowski that “You can say again, ‘Merry Christmas,’ because Donald Trump is now the president. You can say it again, it’s OK to say, it’s not a pejorative word anymore.”

Pejorative word? Really, pejorative means to express contempt or disapproval. When has anyone ever said Merry Christmas with hate or contempt? That is pretty far-fetched and again how power words are used to turn on emotions.

But is it really won? According to The O’Reilly Factor there are still insurgents abound in our society. Whereas the good guys won, that indicates anyone who is not conservative right is bad? That is not very nice for anyone to say.

So what of those who say Happy Holidays yet feed the poor, provide presents for children, and give money to charity all without asking or receiving fame. Is that not the true meaning of Christmas?

Or is the true meaning that God wants to see pushed is if you say Merry Christmas or scream a cup is not to your liking. Hmmm I seem to remember all those money lenders getting zapped and those who say Lord Lord on the camel and eye of that needle.

Seems we have lost what is this time despite all the words proclaiming the patriotic Christian morals that look good on paper, but in hearts and deeds are worthless. If you have hate against a group for not being you, you missed the mark. It is in your actions and how you treat others in addition to those words and your heart.

That brings me to this why, what is the real reason to this War on Christmas.

Summary………..

Many articles, memes, videos are also calling to go back in time to the forefathers or before. To make that time the real Christmas with Christ.. to fundamental roots of America , those brave Puritans.

You remember them and how the Purtians yelled forth Merry Christmas and shared that Christmas tree in their ads……. Ooops

People did take American history right? There was no Christmas like today and even the terms were no what you think. In 1659 an edict was issued that BANNED the holiday for the Puritans… what!!!!

Yup the founders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony banned the holiday, lasting until 1687, but the fact is there was no celebration of Christmas, especially as we see today.

So what is the real war? Nothing, it is based on silliness, because some companies say Happy Holidays and not Merry Christmas? Because schools say winter break and not Christmas break? Really that is the “war?”

And since when does War and Christmas even belong together in a phrase? Did everyone miss the meaning of Christmas? Of peace, giving, love,

There was no combined ganging up to destroy Christmas by the liberals or whatever is the aim . No edicts passed by the administration. No long cable new shows on how Christmas is ruining America… nothing but here and there discussions over store policy and government property. Where is the proof, except for a hodgepodge of current expressions or acknowledging other diversities within the same time frame?

Yet we do see a combined deliberate action on the right to denounce this non-existence war, or in other wars to create the illusion of a war.. that is the whole issue … why?

There is no hard core proof of America being taken over by “them”…that is all just minor stuff from here or there, manufactured into a fantasy war to rile people behind the right-wing.

Hey if you want people on the side you want to endorse, that is fine, but why make stuff up. There are other ways one can still get recruits and do what is good to help society thus stressing Christian values… ah but those actions do not bring in money based on fear and do not sneak in that white supremacy ideology lurking in the background..

So this is where we are today, anyone who dares to step out of what the right considers the norm is the new target, not just those of the Jewish faith, nor those of the communistic politics, but now it is anyone not of the conservative right. Anyone who thinks progress or liberal are the enemy and taking away your right to say Merry Christmas… and sadly many people feel hook, line, and sinker for this clean up white supremacy mentality.

So maybe instead of boycotting stores that are making money for employees, may part-time Christmas ones. Instead of making mountains out of ant hills for fame and money. Maybe instead of causing people to hate one section of the country. Maybe people need to think about what is the real reason that all forget…love and peace that overwhelms all. Try that instead, yea I know not fun to scream and get people worked up on love, guess love does not that punch that hate creates…

Infowars

The Steel Soapbox … infowars

Many of you know what this site infowars is, you share the stuff all the time as I have seen them zip through my news-feed. And for those who have no idea, you need to learn … seriously be informed and know what you are passing along.

Alex Jones the creator of inforwars is what can be described as a conspiracy induced raves and is a favorite with the alt-right, ie white supremacists even though he is not openly racists in remarks. However it must be noted there are many underlying tones which resonated with a large percentage of borderline white supremacists who have stated listening to infowars led them to the alt-right.

People do not follow unless you say something or they find a companionship quality in what you represent. Thus why everyone needs to know before you pass along… does this group represent you and if so what does that say to others?

This man, Jones, is a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, has said the Oklahoma attack was inside job by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and he is the main force behind the claim that Sandy Hook was faked by child actors and those kids are not dead. Pretty harsh in light of the evidence and in regards to the broken hearts of the families, but that kind of rhetoric gets him money, fame and ratings… and sadly people watch and consume his words as if they were truth.

So why should we as a nation be worried, because the president elect and many members he is considering for cabinet positions are followers of the alt-right and of infowars… that is why. Jones claims to have the ear of Trump who even went on the show to say how “amazing” Jones was and his supporters… amazing!!!! Telling people the kids ripped apart by bullets was just a hoax fashioned by Obama to take away your guns… that is amazing?

Jones propagates paranoia and conspiracy cocktails that are dangerous, remember the recent “pizzagate”, yup that gunman was a follower and Jones pumped up that conspiracy against Clinton and Podesta..…. and if people were killed because of this lie? Where is the morals and ethics?

And what about those millions of illegal votes that Trump has pounced on, well that idea came directly off of infowars with no proof just another conspiracy theory to make money off of. The shocking part is that the president elect used that without checking or caring if it was real… that is scary. This casual tossing aside facts for lies that in itself is unsettling.

That is at the heart of what is the problem with our society today, this lack of critical thinking and the acceptance of whatever you see or read with no proof, or denying proof for lies and made up conjectures…

We all must take some responsibility for what we say, but when we just say crap to make money or cause trouble where is the accountability? When will people who follow have the nerve to say, this is not right? Question news, events, yes question them… but to hold onto bold face lies, conspiracy tactics that cause fear mongering, and using people’s fears and emotions to hold them hostages … no that is not questioning that is hurting society …..

logical fallacy

The Steel Soapbox … logical fallacy

A logical fallacy is flawed reasoning. The fallacy usually requires one to shift the burden of proof onto those arguing that something is untrue. This is done because there is no credible evidence to provide and therefore the only solution is to use one of the many fallacies…

Here are some good videos to watch to understand what a logical fallacy is, how to spot it, and how to respond.

FACTS are not FACTS !!!!!!!

The Steel Soapbox … FACTS are not FACTS !!!!!!!

In response to the following:

How Journalists Are Rethinking Their Role Under A Trump Presidency

https://thedianerehmshow.org/shows/2016-11-30/how-journalists-are-rethinking-their-role-under-a-trump-presidency

This is where the big problem facing our nation lies .. when we allow as a society for truth-facts to be seen as false and have people of authority buying into false-facts and thus spreading the degradation of education and critical thinking down… that is the dumbing down of America and will break the back of what America is.

During a recent interview a Trump surrogate said the following (the full discussion is here https://thedianerehmshow.org/…/how-journalists-are-rethinki…

“Well, I think it’s also an idea of an opinion. And that’s — on one hand I hear half the media saying that these are lies, but on the other half there are many people that go, no, it’s true. And so one thing that has been interesting this entire campaign season to watch is that people that say facts are facts, they’re not really facts. Everybody has a way, it’s kind of like looking at ratings or looking at a glass of half-full water. Everybody has a way of interpreting them to be the truth or not true.
There’s no such thing, unfortunately, anymore of facts. And so Mr. Trump’s tweet amongst a certain crowd, a large — a large part of the population, are truth. When he says that millions of people illegally voted, he has some — in his — amongst him and his supporters, and people believe they have facts to back that up. Those that do not like Mr. Trump, they say that those are lies, and there’s no facts to back it up. “

SOOOOO there we have it ..

Take your jaws off the floor and digest what the gentleman has just said….. there are no objective facts now-a-days… it is all opinions.
The sky is blue, nah I think it is more yellow and you cannot prove me wrong because I said it. … Think about that…. when did the word fact come to mean opinion?

Facts means the truth and cannot be denied… that is what makes a fact a FACT…. This treatment of such a basic principle is why we are failing as a nation and why we have 42 percent of the country unable to critically think… that is where the problem lies..

We see this on a daily scheme with shows like Ancient Aliens, Bigfoot, and other pseudo based shows that allow falsehoods to be seen as real science and displaying an entertainment views that warps the critical thinking view we should be upholding.

Those who buy into the pseudo-science and pseudo archaeology, the two big areas that are being targeted, they do so either because they are not educated in what the truth is and therefore are easy to fool…

or even worse those who know the truth but want to spread falsehoods/misrepresentations/lies because they either want to feel they are part of a secret to be uncovered thus giving meaning to their reason… or sadly they enjoy fooling people for either money or the fame connected….

This same round of events happened at the election: people followed false stories and fake tweets coming from all locations allowing themselves to believe in those either because they wanted to believe or were ill-informed that they were being bamboozled. Those passing along the fake stuff did so for money or the fame attached while knowing what they said was false… that is shameful.

Even when called on the mark that they are passing around lies or mis-information, many will continue to do so while also degrading and demeaning those who pass along the truth-facts… thus striking against truth for false.. what happened America, when did we fall so far to believe in rumor-mongering and denying real information…

In my view everyone who knowingly passed along rumors/lies/ falsehoods should be ashamed and they all must take responsibility for the dumbing down of our education, the lack of critical thinking, and the deterioration of our technology/intellectual society…

We truly need to rethink how to address this plague in our society and stop any more degradation of critical thinking skills, and rebuild the integrity of facts…. yes facts not opinions…

Privatization of Medicare

The Steel Soapbox … Privatization of Medicare

Next year you may see a shock to America’s elderly population and those who are disabled to work… the privatization of Medicare and social security.

For now let us just look at Medicare.. At least be aware of what may come and how this will affect a big segment of Americans

Let us start with terms so we are all on the same page:

Privatization Definition

The technical definition is: the process of transferring an enterprise or industry from the public sector to the private sector.

The common sense definition: someone is going to make money off of you and cost you more money.

Think of a bottle of olives that looks the same in size but over the years the company increases the liquid, gets smaller olives, or reduces the number, and you are none the wiser but they make more profit for those who have stock etc. You get less they get more, that is privatization, no one is going to give you the dominant spot.

Medicare Definition

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with end stage renal disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Those last two were added becasue insurance companies refused to pay for them…. keep that in mind if you have a family member or know someone who is suffering from those

Medicare Facts

.. Medicare is funded by a Payroll Tax, premiums and surtaxes from beneficiaries, and general revenue. In other words, you as a taxpayer have paid into the system.

.. In 2015, Medicare provided health insurance for over 55 million: of that 46 million people age 65 and older and nine million younger people

.. On average, Medicare covers about half of the health care charges for those enrolled, all the rest of the charges are out of pocket.

.. All payments to doctors go through government i.e. Medicare.

Changes that may be made may or will include:

.. Calling the plan the “Better Way”.. sounds good huh .. a nice whitewashed name to draw one in… and that is the name of the game, to gloss over what it is in reality

.. change the age to 67 to enroll

.. base off the 2011 plan that Ryan initiated, a person on Medicare will pay double… yes at least double…. that does not count in out of pocket expenses, just for coverage

.. Instead of having Medicare paying directly for the medical, there will be a middle man. The results will be that privatized middle man will need money. And that middle man represents shareholders, stocks, dividends..

.. Benefits will be decreased to give way at the top for profits due to higher administration costs and need to report to a board and stockholders.

.. Insurance companies can decide what they will or will not pay, and higher end medical needs will mean you must pay more or do without.

The difference

The government does not work on profit but on service. So how will this affect people: raises what you pay and lowers what you will receive, because who else will pay for that corporation… the elderly and disabled.

Hey, I hear you yelling, the voucher will give you the money to pay for the insurance…. True but do not forget why the Medicare system was enacted in the first place. Elderly people COST an insurance money, elderly people do not MAKE the insurance company money. Thus why the rates will double and the covered items will be gutted.

Oh and do not forget, you can still be denied coverage, even with that voucher….

So the money you paid in goes to that corporation… that what you thought would happen when voting… right?

But wait the new administration will never gut Medicare, he will protect the elderly. Think again with the nomination of Tom Price for Health and Human Services Secretary, a devoted follower of Paul Ryan, there will be a strong push to get rid of Medicare.

Finally a lot of people work to make sure you get health benefits, people who are not high paid but civil servants. People who work for you. They will lose their jobs, thousands.

Do you truly think an insurance company will listen to you as much as a civil servant, then you have not had yet to deal with an insurance company when they say ‘no, we will not cover that. You must pay for it yourself…”

And why will they not cover it? Simple the procedure is too expensive and they have to give their stockholders money, YOUR money you paid in and now are screwed…

I just fail to understand why people had the government employees that are just there to help you, why the immense hatred one sees.. is it true hate, a bandwagon tactic, or just someone you can lay all you blames and problems on… sadly I fear this will now be the norm: we increase jobs by throwing thousands of medium wage earners out of work and giving corporations a big money boost … seems so.

Now what you need to think is why? Why give a private company money for a service that should be free since you paid into it… why indeed, stock anyone?

And if this goes through, I will be watching to see who is screaming the loudest, I have my suspicions, we shall see. We keep hearing the vote is in … so buck up and go with the flow, plan on saving now or do without medical

Jefferson and Public Education

The Steel Soapbox … Jefferson and Public Education

We have our public school system thanks to our forefathers… Thomas Jefferson in particular was an advocate of the system. He believed the natural rights of man should include being education since that was the crux to a nation not just limping along but growing into a great nation. In order to achieve this stature, Americans would need to be educated so they could select qualified leaders and push the government forward.

Jefferson saw that education, intelligence, and the internal well-being went hand in hand, a man well educated was a prime directive to enjoying life more than one uneducated, less intelligence. Thus the key to making America a great nation was education, not praising the uneducated but pushing for more education.

In 1779, he advocated for a three year period free education funded by tax-payers to be granted for all free-born children both male and female. For Virginia he proposed that every county in Virginia should provide an elementary school. (A Bill for the More General Diffusion of Knowledge)

Three years may not seem much today, but it was a major issue then, plus females were included.

Jefferson also understood that America would need both those in the professional realms and tradesmen (vocations) in order for a nation to go forward. He also strongly believed that both homemakers and men with vocational training needed to be educated to have the ability to be informed of current events, politics, and important issues that may arise, judge those item in a rational manner, and come to a fair and equitable conclusion. Thus giving back a decision that was right for all Americans not just themselves.

Think about that, this is a major idea…. that the common man was to have education that gave him the power to make decision that affected all. This was not taken lightly nor was it abused for the ‘me me me me’ attitude. This idea has come back again and again in America, most famously by Kennedy with his famous quote: “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

In the recent election how many times did you see people say: I am voting for because I want, I need, I, I, me, me, me…… seems we have lost that idea of doing what is right for the whole in favor of ourselves.

Okay back on tract ….

In 1817 Jefferson reworded his proposal in an outline for Virginia. The outline was worked in three stages. Elementary school, where all children received those three years of schooling. After that time, females were to learn homemaking skills and the males to learn a vocation.

Intermediate schools where for those families with money could then continue to send their sons (no females allowed) that excelled at the elementary level. And then the university where of course parents paid.

These schools would teach the following: math, reading, writing, basic geography, and Western civilization history (Greek, Roman, European and of course American)

Here, it is of interest to stop and look at the reasoning for the history. Jefferson wrote:

“History by apprising them of the past will enable them to judge of the future; it will avail them of the experience of other times and other nations; it will qualify them as judges of the actions and designs of men; it will enable them to know ambition under every disguise it may assume; and knowing it, to defeat its views.” (Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia)

By knowing your history and how it affects you will make you a better judge of man and what events you need to participate in for the growth of the nation. This is important even today, for how many times have we seen in the recently history forgotten or attempt to revise with erroneous errors.

Unlike many who today scoff at education and speak how they love the uneducated, our forefathers who laid out this nation new the importance of this. It is through education that ignorance is defeated, and ignorance breeds contempt and hate that destroys a nation, not builds it up.

Jefferson stressed that everyone needs the basic education, this concept is still important today, though the time period has increased to what we consider basic. Personally I would extend that 12 year span by 2 years preferably at a community college as a base education for all Americans. College tends to expand how one looks at the world and critically thinks. At one time these skills were incorporated into the 12 year schooling but the practice has been lost in recent years.

We are seeing a push today to include religion into public schools. Jefferson was strongly pushed for what he referred to as “separation of state and religion” in order to ensure freedom of religion.

“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties. (January 1, 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson, addressed to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut, and published in a Massachusetts newspaper

This idea is further enhanced by Article Six

“no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

Madison echoed the separation of state and religion in his journal entry of August 15, 1789:

“Mr. Madison said he apprehended the meaning of the words to be, that Congress should not establish a religion, and enforce the legal observation of it by law, nor compel men to worship God in any manner contrary to their conscience. …” (House of Representatives, Amendments to the Constitution)

So what about the teaching of religion in schools… this is now where it becomes interesting.

“The first stage of this education being the schools of the hundreds, wherein the great mass of the people will receive their instruction, the principal foundations of future order will be laid here. Instead therefore of putting the Bible and Testament into the hands of the children, at an age when their judgments are not sufficiently matured for religious enquiries, their memories may here be stored with the most useful facts from Grecian, Roman, European and American history.” (Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia)

Thomas Jefferson pushed for facts over the Bible for students, leaving their religious education for later in life and with their own institutions. He praises science and history over the Bible for basic education…. That is truly amazing considering the era.
He goes on to state:

“The first elements of morality too may be instilled into their minds; such as, when further developed as their judgments advance in strength, may teach them how to work out their own greatest happiness, by shewing them that it does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed them, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation, and freedom in all just pursuits.”

For Jefferson the morality learned from history will strengthen their own life’s happiness factor, i.e. education and intelligence far outweighs the uneducated. Again think on this… incredible the thought and progressive thoughts.

Thus education was important to Jefferson for all therefore a public school system, one we should be holding at higher standards today.

So what has gone wrong… why are we now seeing education as bad, smart people as evil, intelligence as a mockery, academia ridiculed, and any though beyond what is to be controlled a danger… what has happened to the educational push in America and why are we stepping back, going back never equals greatness only ignorance and control.

And just for a nice ending.. how did Jefferson see others than his own white heritage as to speak? Well here is one example…
Jefferson had a radically idea back then to restructure the College of William and Mary from the religious direction of missionary indoctrination of the Native American populations and instead instruct the missionary to follow along secular lines to obtain anthropological data… shocking…

“The said Professors shall likewise appoint, from time to time, a missionary, of approved veracity, to the several tribes of Indians, whose business shall be to investigate their laws, customs, religions, traditions, and more particularly their languages, constructing grammars thereof, as well as may be, and copious vocabularies, and, on oath, to communicate, [from time to time to the said president and professors the materials he collects to be by them laid up and preserved in their library, for which trouble the said missionary shall be allowed a salary at the discretion of the visitors out of the revenues of the college.” (A Bill for Amending the Constitution of the College of William and Mary, and Substituting More Certain Revenues for Its Support)

Our forefathers may not have been perfect, our government may not be perfect… however we can work on those imperfection not by hiding our eyes to where we are today, how certain ideas have been allowed to fester ….. We need to make sure our great experiment does not fail in the next 4 years by staying vigilance and opposing control, regression, hate, and supremacy ideologies

Definition time: prejudice, bigotry, bias, discrimination, and racism

The Steel Soapbox Definition time: prejudice, bigotry, bias, discrimination, and racism

Seems many people have no idea what these words mean and often you see these words used incorrectly by interchanging them regardless of the fact that each meaning and intent used is far different.

We need as a society to understand what each of these words are, how to use them correctly, and the affect they can cause on a society.

… so let us have a crash course… prejudice, bigotry, bias, discrimination, and racism

Prejudice as defined by Dictionary.com
1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason. 2. any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable. 3. unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial, social, or religious group.

In other words prejudice is a negative judgement you make towards another person or group based on no prior connection, “without knowledge” is the key phrase here.

So that means you may have never been hurt by a swan but you think swans are bad because you heard it so. You have no connection to the swan.

Bias as defined by Dictionary.com
1. a particular tendency, trend, inclination, feeling, or opinion, especially one that is preconceived or unreasoned: illegal bias against older job applicants; the magazine’s bias toward art rather than photography 2. unreasonably hostile feelings or opinions about a social group; prejudice: accusations of racial bias.

As one can once again see the word unreasonable used in the definition. In other words there is no logical reason for the bias.

That swan you never met, you feel would be a bad swan because they swim, not logical or reasonable but an opinion never the less.

Bigotry as defined by Dictionary.com
1.stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one’s own. 2.the actions, beliefs, prejudices, etc., of a bigot.

Now we see the word intolerance used. This is a stronger word than bias or prejudice.

You think all swans should be banned from the area because they are not like your breed which is a duck.

Discrimination as defined by Dictionary.com
1. an act or instance of discriminating, or of making a distinction. 2. treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.

In this case we do not see a negative concept but rather an action used to determine difference between two or more elements.

So back to the dick, who discriminates against swan by pointing out their long necks and lack of feather patterns. The duck actively uses elements to support the discrimination.

Racism as defined by Dictionary.com
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others. 2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination. 3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

As you can see racism is a doctrine of hate towards another based on the idea that your group is superior and therefore has the right to control all those not of their group.

Back to the swan and duck. The duck feels superior to the swan, because of being a duck. Therefore the duck feels the right to dominate the swan and if need be eliminate the swan since the swan does not have the same equality. But what of the ducks over in the other side of the pond, they are equal right. Those ducks are different and not equal as well… even being a duck does not guarantee safety

I hope this helps in knowing what word is what and the intensity of that word. To disagree does not make one a racist or bigot…

Instead being a racist or bigot etc, well that is shown in your words, acts, and deeds demonstrating the intent and goals as set out in the above definitions: intolerance of others and superiority of yourself/group

What is the alt-right?

The Steel Soapbox

Why is it important to know what the alt-right is? Simple because these groups have been supporting the recent election for Trump, they have been diligent in passing around deceptive memes, stories and twitter, and they are now present in at least three positions for the white house… This is why we need as a Nation to understand who and what they are.

Can we afford to mainstream the alt-right and okay the rise of white supremacy in our country?

Let us look at what is the alt right… apparently many people have no idea what they are passing along in degrading memes they think are patriotic are produced by or emblazoned with logos of alt-right groups.

Today I saw a meme that demanded “those”, a black man was pictured, who loot should lose welfare. What did this picture say? First the impression is given that only minorities are on welfare and loot. Second is the logo of an alt-right group is ghosted in the background. If you are an alt-right supporter then you pass this around knowing the full meaning of that meme.

If you happen not to agree with alt-right or white supremacy but yet agree that those who loot, no matter their color, should lose benefits you probably will pass along the meme. So what have you done? You have unknowingly supported white supremacy. And thousand do that every day giving the alt-right normalization and saying it is okay to be openly racists…

The alt-right wraps itself in the flag to say they are patriotic Americans, however you must be “white” Americans, nothing else. Is that America you want? If so you are doing a great job in passing along your ideology.

But what about those that have no idea what the alt-right is… that is the purpose of this little soapbox speech today. Alt-right is a loose network of white nationalists and anti-Semites .. that is it in a nutshell.

The term alt-right was coined in 2008 and refers to those groups that revolve around the idea of “white identity” and the preservation of what they see as Western civilization. So who coined this word… no it was not the media. It was in fact Richard Bertrand Spencer a white supremacist who is the head of the National Policy Institute (NPI).

The term alternative right sounds a lot better than white supremacy which has a negative connotation. After all they are just another right-wing group, nothing wrong in that term upon first glance. And that was the purpose in choosing the term to eclipse all the groups.

Spencer is the ideal spokesman for the alt-right, He is a nice looking clean cut college educated guy that waves the flag, speaks of a peaceful ethic cleansing, and uses wordage that draws people with rational though flawed logic intended to appeal to white college educated males. He then uses the fear that the white way of life is going away due to the races infiltrating the United States.

They speak of preserving American heritage, of protecting Western civilization: all nice words that sidestep the harsh in the face words of racist or white supremacy .

So tell me how can an ethnic cleansing be peaceful … though how can the destruction of one ethnicity be peaceful? How do you eliminate all non-white from the United States or Western Civilization, peacefully? Explain the logic there? There is none because hate has no logic it is gut enforced emotional prejudice: all fear and hate.

Spencer denies he is a racist… how? Easy change the semantics of the word

‘Racist’ is just a slur word, I think race is real, and I think race is important. And those two principles do not mean I want to harm someone or hate someone. But the notion that these people can be equal is not a scientific way of looking at it.” (Spencer to the Flathead Beacon)

Racist means and still means “a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another”. This the NPR and Spencer have shown on numerous occasions that they believe the white race is superior as shown above in their denial of the word. Seems backpedaling just gets them in deeper. So no matter how much he and other alt-right try to wash the term they are racists in their words and views.

The alt-right uses pseudo reports to show why the white DNA is superior, reports that have been denounced as fables. To counter science the alt-right’s solution is to turn and denounce the academics with louder voices to drown out fact with fiction.

This tactic we saw used in the election and with Trump surrogates, turn the tide by denouncing facts with loud repetitive voices. However facts cannot be quenched, and those DNA studies that show inferiority are false.

We also see this same tactic used in pseudoscience, climate change, nah that is a fable. Vaccines to help, nah that is a fable. In pseudo-archaeology this trend continues. The Egyptians or Mays built the pyramids, nah it was a superior unknown race. Dinosaurs were millions of years old, nope fable only 8,000 years old. See the path… only a superior race could account for any civilization and all science and academia is false…. really and people believe that, shameful

By the way, you did take note the date this term was coined right? 2008. What happened in that year? America had its first president that was not white… this was devastating for those who cannot accept anyone other than a white male in positions of power. And the alt-right was intensified as it came into full bodied existence with trumpets blaring.

If you are reading or supporter by sharing alt-right memes, stories etc.. no matter how much you try and clean the words or acts… at least be aware of what you are sharing and why … here is a small list of what to avoid if you are not aware of this and do not want to promote such ideologies
