The War on Christmas Fallacy

The Steel Soapbox … The War on Christmas Fallacy

You hear this phrase a lot lately, that there is a deliberate attempt by the “liberals” etc to take away your right to say Merry Christmas and deny Christianity in America. Really!!!! And just how many swallowed that line… LOTS… ever since around 2005 you have heard this screaming out in the news-feed, people in videos, really to the point of violent… all during a time for peace on earth.. very sad

But hurrah now those proponents of this intangible war are claiming the “War on Christmas” has ended, once again you can say Merry Christmas.

Wait a minute…hmmmm… since when could you not? In imagination and fear mongering land apparently because I hear it all the time and have no worry about people not saying it.

I see nothing wrong with the term Happy Holidays since that has been used for years and years. For me the word holiday just stands all those holidays from Thanksgiving through New Year. With Merry Christmas being reserved more for the day itself.

Does anyone remember the song “Happy Holidays”? I doubt the likes of Andy Williams or Bing Crosby was censoring Christmas when they sang. It is just an inclusive term that is all. So what is the the reasoning why for the intense dislike by those forging this invisible non-existent fantasy war.

Face it and this is the truly hard part to admit, the word holiday it is not “white” enough because the term holidays could include those other holidays, instilling a fear that acknowledging other holidays would make the USA a non-Christian nation and therefore non-white. That is where this idea of a war on Christmas goes to the roots of this whole idea.

soooooo……how many out there in internet land has thought to check where this silliness all started and why it is going on. Well I did because I like to know what those pesky facts are and where they come from. So let us get the facts and know why we should not be passing along this load of bull.

The Ford Connection in 1921

In 1921 Henry Ford, yes the automaker and anti-Semite, wrote and distributed a pamphlet “The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem” in which he states:

“Last Christmas most people had a hard time finding Christmas cards that indicated in any way that Christmas commemorated Someone’s Birth,”

“People sometimes ask why 3,000,000 Jews can control the affairs of 100,000,000 Americans. In the same way that ten Jewish students can abolish the mention of Christmas and Easter out of schools containing 3,000 Christian pupils.”

“It is not religious tolerance in the midst of religious difference, but religious attack that they preach and practice.”

“The whole record of the Jewish opposition to Christmas, Easter and certain patriotic songs shows that.”

He was referring to what he saw as a unified effort to silence Christmas carolers among taking religion out of school by denying Christmas and Easter. So who was to blame, of course those of the Jewish faith.

1950 and the John Birch Society

Coming up on this a few years later in 1959 a publication of a pamphlet called “There Goes Christmas”. This was a creation of groups affiliated with the John Birch Society (JBS). Have no idea who they are? Maybe you need to read up on them as well. In a short the John Birch Society is basically a conservative organization supporting anti-communism and limited government. They decided in the late 50’s there was a new communist plot to overthrown Christianity by taking the Christ out of Christmas. So that was their aim.

Both had one thing in common, no proof. One blamed those of the Jewish faith and the other blamed communism. The difference one blamed a specific religion and people, one a political concept.

Simply put this idea was a conspiracy theory back then with no facts other than paranoid delusions. In recent times we have seen this whole idea reborn, however not improved but still as a valueless conspiracy theory.

1990’s reintroduction

So where did the modern “War on Christmas” come from. It was started with a meme in the 90’s by Peter Brimelow. Who is he you wonder? Well he is a known white-supremacist, anti-Semitic, and owner of site called VDARE…

Just a quick side note because I always find quirky in odd ways: VDARE stands for Virginia Dare the first white child born in America and VDARE is an anti-immigration group. Think about that for a second, they are named after a child of …???what???… oh yes: immigrants… and yet the organization is against immigrants coming to a “white” country. Refresh me I could have sworn the Native Americans were here before and they were not Christians… soooooo is this group against itself or just what they consider “non-white” immigrants. That says to me a lot about their ideology.

Back to serious here… in 1995 Brimelow wrote a book called “Alien Nation”. In that book he blamed the lack of everyone saying Merry Christmas in favor of Happy Holidays was the result of “weird” aliens from those 3rd world countries who were eroding America’s white Christian core and the cause of the sudden Happy Holidays sayings. Really… that was his argument. There was no proof given, no studies, no statistics. Just what he thinks and his opinion.

Also note the use of the word alien is used to make something so foreign to us it is not human… we need to rethink words and how people use those words. Once we start to see other humans as inferior to you, yourself, and you, it becomes dangerous and that is the whole idea behind supremacy. To make something so un-human you can with ease of conscious deny them basic human rights, call for ethnic cleanings, and openly degrade them… is that not what we are seeing? Think about it for a while.

Again back on track, who else was sharing these views for we cannot limit this phenomena to just Brimelow, others helped in the hate creation, that helped to birth the conspiracy theory taking root in white-supremacy.

Let us see, in 2001 a writer called Tom Piatak targeted those behind the “War on Christmas” as none other than those who preferred Hanukkah of which he titled Jewish Kwanzaa” (faux-Christmas). Now who is this person you are wondering, lots of names you may not recognize if you are not part of that loop. Mr. Piatak is what is known as a “paleoconservative” writing for a magazine called “Chronicles: A Magazine of American Culture” which is known for pseudohistory and who counts among the contributors a fair share of out and out racists. Paleoconservative is another word I am sure many will look up. It basically means: an extremely right-wing conservative.

Now we can step a few years ahead to 2005 a very big year indeed. Here we have Steve Sailer, author of “America’s Half-Blood Prince” and rather known to have influence over the right wing in that time period, took a step farther in this conspiracy evolution in strengthening the source being Jewish. He is a proponent of eugenics, which is “the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics” which is ominous considering he leans to the belief that minorities need to be controlled because they lack IQ points. Okayyyyy onwards …..

On Dec. 7th, 2004, The O’Reilly Factor aired a small segment called “Christmas Under Siege”. Hmmm did anyone think this supposed war, a white supremacist ideology, is openly given media acknowledgment … and no one thought this should be a worry … hmm but-t-t-t…..

The whole white supremacy idea was covered up, a twist appears on the horizon to make it palatable. A slight change in the program that made the whole white supremacist background easy for a majority of America to swallow: blame it on the liberals and ignore the root, after all who will look. Polarization is a great way to keep expel locked into what you want them to hear, and those echo chambers were loud with this foolish War on Christmas idea.

In 2005 O’Reilly launched in full force the annual War on Christmas program:

“I think it’s all part of the secular progressive agenda to get Christianity and spirituality out of the public square.” “Because if you look at what happened in Western Europe and Canada, if you can get religion out, then you can pass secular progressive programs like legalization of narcotics, euthanasia, abortion at will, gay marriage.” (Bill O’Reilly Nov. 18, 2005)

Weird how in one part he of his program he condemns and shames those stores for not saying Merry Christmas in favor of Happy Holidays, but then tributes the whole commercialism aspect credit for praising Christmas:

“Every company in America should be on its knees thanking Jesus for being born. Without Christmas, most American businesses would be far less profitable.” (Bill O’Reilly Nov. 29, 2005.

That comment above was in response to a discussion with John Gibson, referring to winter break rather than Christmas break. Guess they never heard of the notorious “spring break” rather than Easter break. Times change, as we all know. Words are becoming more defined of the actual event. So to compare apples to steak in order to make a nonsensical point and infame anger, what is the real reasoning, for what purpose? That is what we need to look at and why the term holidays is so offensive to the conservative right.

Back to John Gibson I mentioned above, this gentleman also hit the bandwagon publishing a book in 2005 that conspiracy theory “The War on Christmas: How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday Is Worse than You Thought.” In the many reviews available, the book is describe basically as a long rant on why he thinks there is a war:

“The Christians are coming to retake their place in the public square, and the most natural battleground in this war is Christmas”

Since 2005 the “War on Christians” full program was debuted, the same idea and format is rolled each year with the targets varying but still directed at anyone not conservative right or following their mandate for what is allowed to be said. Many have jumped on the bandwagon with books, interviews, articles,: if someone would listen or pay money to keep the term Merry Christmas these guys were there to partake of those greenbacks.

After President Obama was elected, the new target was the White House and his questionable birth. Many posted that the President refused to say Merry Christmas, in an attempt to tie him to Islam and thus not American. This is of course silly nonsense as shown in a video that shows a series of spliced together of Christmas wishes from the White House where the President says over and over Merry Christmas.

But why hear the real facts when the lies are along what you want to hear, America is at war with the “white” Christians and we must protect our European values. European, another code word now used for white America. Oh and that term European is limited by the alt-right in who is classed and what parts of Europe are considered…. senseless I know

Before I go further down the time line, let us stop and look at three important items that still need to be covered:

First: Commercialism… this whole idea of controlling what stores will say. The best example of this control can be shown with a list distributed by The American Family Association (AFA). This organization separates companies into three categories based on the following as noted on their website:

Nice: “Company uses the term “Christmas” on a regular basis, we consider that company Christmas-friendly.”

Marginal: “Company refers to Christmas infrequently, or in a single advertising medium, but not in others.”

Naughty: “Company may use “Christmas” sparingly in a single or unique product description, but as a company, does not recognize it”

“Criteria – AFA reviewed up to four areas to determine if a company was “Christmas-friendly” in their advertising: print media (newspaper inserts), broadcast media (radio/television), website and/or personal visits to the store. If a company’s ad has references to items associated with Christmas (trees, wreaths, lights, etc.), it was considered as an attempt to reach “Christmas” shoppers.

If a company has items associated with Christmas, but did not use the word “Christmas,” then the company is considered as censoring “Christmas.”” (AFA 2016 webpage)

Now we are not talking about anything tangible, like how they treat their employees, customer service, value, or the quality of merchandise. This list does not account for charity donations the companies may do around the holiday times or year long. It only concerned if the company advertises Christmas in their sales in the media or in the store…. Is that Christmas value, how one constructs an ad? We have gone way down the rabbit hole if so.

Second: Xmas versus Christmas

Oh one also has to note apparently using the abbreviation Xmas will get you a strike and lecture by those that fear you dared to take Christ out of Christmas as I saw a bumper sticker say just today. “Not Xmas, keep Christ in Christmas”. Okayyyyy.

That is actually kind of funny since if one bothers to look into the use of the Greek letter chi-the X-for it is the first letter of Christ in Greek language. Oh and Greek by the way was the language of the New Testament. The use is known as a Christogram.

Those posting that the use of Xmas is taking Christ out of Christmas are again not checking facts and posting or sharing fake news.

Third: Starbucks

Starbucks for years had holiday/winter theme cups, but snowmen, snowflakes, reindeer, and so forth. But nowhere ever was there the phrase “Merry Christmas”. So in November 2015 when a simple plain red cup was introduced, why the sudden Starbucks is anti-Christmas.

One source is plain, a video by Joshua Feuerstein who calls labels himself via his Facebook an evangelist and self-proclaimed “social media personality”. His rant, and that is all it can be called, was baseless.

“Do you realize that Starbucks wanted to take Christ, and Christmas, off of their brand-new cups? That’s why they’re just plain red.” “Do you realize that Starbucks isn’t allowed to say ‘Merry Christmas’ to customers?”

There was no proof to his claim that Starbucks removed Christmas nor did the company ever forbid the words Merry Christmas”. He then brags he tricked Starbucks by saying his name was Merry Christmas and tricking the company ingot repealing some nonexistent rule. Oh and he also revealed he took his gun in since Starbucks hated the second amendment. What??????

This is how fake news starts with a false accusation going viral among those who are looped in this polarized echo chamber. The numerous shares and quoting resulted in people believing it was true. Even president-elect Donald Trump got into the fray believing this fake news theory:

“Did you read about Starbucks? No more Merry Christmas on Starbucks. Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don’t know. Seriously, I don’t care. ” (Springfield, Illinois Nov 9, 2015)

To be honest, I find this video rant disturbing that a man claiming to be God-fearing spreading the word of God would act like this in a video? This is how one supports the Christmas spirit of love and peace? So what was the reasoning behind this false story and the anger, to get clicks to his Facebook page, YouTube, to make money via clickbait to website and sadly for that 15 minutes of fame with a reported over 1.8 million likes and 12 million views… that brings in fans and bucks. Is that the moral thing to do? You have to decide that on your own… personally I had a nice time at Starbucks just today, and no there were no one saying their name was Merry Christmas to trick the cashiers, just busy working people begin polite to each other and customers responding with like manners…

Finally back to the time-line

All this history brings us to today 2016… and now we are told proudly by Corey Lewandowski that “You can say again, ‘Merry Christmas,’ because Donald Trump is now the president. You can say it again, it’s OK to say, it’s not a pejorative word anymore.”

Pejorative word? Really, pejorative means to express contempt or disapproval. When has anyone ever said Merry Christmas with hate or contempt? That is pretty far-fetched and again how power words are used to turn on emotions.

But is it really won? According to The O’Reilly Factor there are still insurgents abound in our society. Whereas the good guys won, that indicates anyone who is not conservative right is bad? That is not very nice for anyone to say.

So what of those who say Happy Holidays yet feed the poor, provide presents for children, and give money to charity all without asking or receiving fame. Is that not the true meaning of Christmas?

Or is the true meaning that God wants to see pushed is if you say Merry Christmas or scream a cup is not to your liking. Hmmm I seem to remember all those money lenders getting zapped and those who say Lord Lord on the camel and eye of that needle.

Seems we have lost what is this time despite all the words proclaiming the patriotic Christian morals that look good on paper, but in hearts and deeds are worthless. If you have hate against a group for not being you, you missed the mark. It is in your actions and how you treat others in addition to those words and your heart.

That brings me to this why, what is the real reason to this War on Christmas.

Many articles, memes, videos are also calling to go back in time to the forefathers or before. To make that time the real Christmas with Christ.. to fundamental roots of America , those brave Puritans.

You remember them and how the Purtians yelled forth Merry Christmas and shared that Christmas tree in their ads……. Ooops

People did take American history right? There was no Christmas like today and even the terms were no what you think. In 1659 an edict was issued that BANNED the holiday for the Puritans… what!!!!

Yup the founders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony banned the holiday, lasting until 1687, but the fact is there was no celebration of Christmas, especially as we see today.

So what is the real war? Nothing, it is based on silliness, because some companies say Happy Holidays and not Merry Christmas? Because schools say winter break and not Christmas break? Really that is the “war?”

And since when does War and Christmas even belong together in a phrase? Did everyone miss the meaning of Christmas? Of peace, giving, love,

There was no combined ganging up to destroy Christmas by the liberals or whatever is the aim . No edicts passed by the administration. No long cable new shows on how Christmas is ruining America… nothing but here and there discussions over store policy and government property. Where is the proof, except for a hodgepodge of current expressions or acknowledging other diversities within the same time frame?

Yet we do see a combined deliberate action on the right to denounce this non-existence war, or in other wars to create the illusion of a war.. that is the whole issue … why?

There is no hard core proof of America being taken over by “them”…that is all just minor stuff from here or there, manufactured into a fantasy war to rile people behind the right-wing.

Hey if you want people on the side you want to endorse, that is fine, but why make stuff up. There are other ways one can still get recruits and do what is good to help society thus stressing Christian values… ah but those actions do not bring in money based on fear and do not sneak in that white supremacy ideology lurking in the background..

So this is where we are today, anyone who dares to step out of what the right considers the norm is the new target, not just those of the Jewish faith, nor those of the communistic politics, but now it is anyone not of the conservative right. Anyone who thinks progress or liberal are the enemy and taking away your right to say Merry Christmas… and sadly many people feel hook, line, and sinker for this clean up white supremacy mentality.

So maybe instead of boycotting stores that are making money for employees, may part-time Christmas ones. Instead of making mountains out of ant hills for fame and money. Maybe instead of causing people to hate one section of the country. Maybe people need to think about what is the real reason that all forget…love and peace that overwhelms all. Try that instead, yea I know not fun to scream and get people worked up on love, guess love does not that punch that hate creates…
