Privatization of Medicare

The Steel Soapbox … Privatization of Medicare

Next year you may see a shock to America’s elderly population and those who are disabled to work… the privatization of Medicare and social security.

For now let us just look at Medicare.. At least be aware of what may come and how this will affect a big segment of Americans

Let us start with terms so we are all on the same page:

Privatization Definition

The technical definition is: the process of transferring an enterprise or industry from the public sector to the private sector.

The common sense definition: someone is going to make money off of you and cost you more money.

Think of a bottle of olives that looks the same in size but over the years the company increases the liquid, gets smaller olives, or reduces the number, and you are none the wiser but they make more profit for those who have stock etc. You get less they get more, that is privatization, no one is going to give you the dominant spot.

Medicare Definition

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with end stage renal disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Those last two were added becasue insurance companies refused to pay for them…. keep that in mind if you have a family member or know someone who is suffering from those

Medicare Facts

.. Medicare is funded by a Payroll Tax, premiums and surtaxes from beneficiaries, and general revenue. In other words, you as a taxpayer have paid into the system.

.. In 2015, Medicare provided health insurance for over 55 million: of that 46 million people age 65 and older and nine million younger people

.. On average, Medicare covers about half of the health care charges for those enrolled, all the rest of the charges are out of pocket.

.. All payments to doctors go through government i.e. Medicare.

Changes that may be made may or will include:

.. Calling the plan the “Better Way”.. sounds good huh .. a nice whitewashed name to draw one in… and that is the name of the game, to gloss over what it is in reality

.. change the age to 67 to enroll

.. base off the 2011 plan that Ryan initiated, a person on Medicare will pay double… yes at least double…. that does not count in out of pocket expenses, just for coverage

.. Instead of having Medicare paying directly for the medical, there will be a middle man. The results will be that privatized middle man will need money. And that middle man represents shareholders, stocks, dividends..

.. Benefits will be decreased to give way at the top for profits due to higher administration costs and need to report to a board and stockholders.

.. Insurance companies can decide what they will or will not pay, and higher end medical needs will mean you must pay more or do without.

The difference

The government does not work on profit but on service. So how will this affect people: raises what you pay and lowers what you will receive, because who else will pay for that corporation… the elderly and disabled.

Hey, I hear you yelling, the voucher will give you the money to pay for the insurance…. True but do not forget why the Medicare system was enacted in the first place. Elderly people COST an insurance money, elderly people do not MAKE the insurance company money. Thus why the rates will double and the covered items will be gutted.

Oh and do not forget, you can still be denied coverage, even with that voucher….

So the money you paid in goes to that corporation… that what you thought would happen when voting… right?

But wait the new administration will never gut Medicare, he will protect the elderly. Think again with the nomination of Tom Price for Health and Human Services Secretary, a devoted follower of Paul Ryan, there will be a strong push to get rid of Medicare.

Finally a lot of people work to make sure you get health benefits, people who are not high paid but civil servants. People who work for you. They will lose their jobs, thousands.

Do you truly think an insurance company will listen to you as much as a civil servant, then you have not had yet to deal with an insurance company when they say ‘no, we will not cover that. You must pay for it yourself…”

And why will they not cover it? Simple the procedure is too expensive and they have to give their stockholders money, YOUR money you paid in and now are screwed…

I just fail to understand why people had the government employees that are just there to help you, why the immense hatred one sees.. is it true hate, a bandwagon tactic, or just someone you can lay all you blames and problems on… sadly I fear this will now be the norm: we increase jobs by throwing thousands of medium wage earners out of work and giving corporations a big money boost … seems so.

Now what you need to think is why? Why give a private company money for a service that should be free since you paid into it… why indeed, stock anyone?

And if this goes through, I will be watching to see who is screaming the loudest, I have my suspicions, we shall see. We keep hearing the vote is in … so buck up and go with the flow, plan on saving now or do without medical
